Hungarian citizenship application during the COVID-19 pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting every aspect of life all around the world. Most people are asked to stay at home if they can, and with a positive attitude, this can be seen as an opportunity to slow down, grow, learn new skills, and focus on what is most important in your life.

The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting every aspect of life all around the world. Most people are asked to stay at home if they can, and with a positive attitude, this can be seen as an opportunity to slow down, grow, learn new skills, and focus on what is most important in your life.

So, how does all this relate to Hungarian citizenship application?

Well, to start with, the process of getting the Hungarian passport can take up to 6-18 months. So why not start it right now?

  1. Do you need genealogy research to prove your Hungarian ancestry to the authorities? The archives are still operating with normal working hours all over Hungary, the genealogist can easily locate the missing documents for your application.
  2. Is speaking at least some Hungarian a requirement in your specific case? Use the time of isolation to start learning the language! You can do it online, through Skype sessions with a langue tutor.
  3. Consulates are going to be extremely busy once the borders open again. If you prepare a timeline for yourself now, you can get the appointment way ahead. So why wait?

Now is a good time to start the procedure.

If you are not sure what documents or even which procedure you need exactly, take a look at our website or ask for a personalized consultation. Contact our citizenship experts, and they will let you know more about the procedure relevant to you, tell you the requirements, and answer all your questions. Remember: you can manage everything online.

Use the time in self-quarantine for growth

Isolation form your colleagues and friends is difficult. It is easy to start feeling lonely if you are not used to spending a lot of time on your own. During these times, the most important thing is to stay in touch with people. Luckily enough, there are various telecommunication tools at hand that let this happen. Also, make sure you don’t let time slip through your fingers. Make plans for your days spent at home, and for the time after the emergency passes. And above all:

Take care, and stay healthy!

Buying a House in Hungary: Lessons Learned

Wednesday, 15 October, 2025
Buying a house in Hungary can be surprisingly straightforward but not without a few challenges. When my husband and I arrived in Budapest, one of the first things we wanted to do was find our own apartment. As a dual citizen, I could skip certain steps, but I still had plenty to learn. From finding listings online to finalising the sale with a lawyer (and no agent in sight), here’s what the process really looked like. — Guest post by Anikó Woods of How to Hungary.

Hungarian citizenship process: making it official

Thursday, 18 September, 2025
The Hungarian citizenship process is rarely straightforward. For me, it wasn’t just paperwork, it was a test of patience and persistence - and, if I’m honest, identity too. I’d always thought of myself as Hungarian; both my parents were, and my name, Anikó, left little doubt. But turning that into something official meant wading through Hungarian bureaucracy, tripping over missing documents, and learning on the fly. This is the story of how I finally made it official, and why I don’t regret a single step. – Guest post by Anikó Woods of How to Hungary.

Wine regions in Hungary

The culture of wine in Hungary is as old as the country itself. You must have heard of Tokaji Aszú, sometimes called “wine of kings, king of wines”, but there are 5 more wine regions in Hungary beside Tokaj and each has its own distinct history and wines.
