The Hungarian citizenship process is rarely straightforward. For me, it wasn’t just paperwork, it was a test of patience and persistence – and, if I’m honest, identity too. I’d always thought of myself as Hungarian; both my parents were, and my name, Anikó, left little doubt. But turning that into something official meant wading through Hungarian bureaucracy, tripping over missing documents, and learning on the fly. The culture of wine in Hungary is as old as the country itself. You must have heard of Tokaji Aszú, sometimes called “wine of kings, king of wines”, but there are 5 more wine regions in Hungary beside Tokaj and each has its own distinct history and wines.

Every year, the cake of Hungary is selected in a contest right before the August 20 festivities. Since August 20 celebrates the foundation of Hungary, it is sometimes also jokingly dubbed the birthday of Hungary, and as such, it makes sense that it should have an official cake. The winner of the contest will be available in confectionaries all over Hungary during the celebrations and in the following weeks.
